  Working smart. Campunch intelligence is a major reason why Salvagnini's S4 is the world's fastest punching and shearing machine. Campunch is a Metalstudio tool that automatically generates punching and shearing programs for the S4, optimized in time and movements, directly from 2D drawings imported or created in Metalstudio.

Working fast. Punching sequences are selected to minimize sheet travel beneath the S4's patented punching head, and the process simulated by the program with real data to arrive at the shortest possible manufacturing cycle. Accurate to within 5% of actual cycle times, Campunch has become a valuable estimating tool for both scheduling and project quoting.

Cross-functional efficiency. Campunch uses tools selected by Toolsmanager for maximum coverage of areas to be punched or nibbled, and once the optimal sequence has been determined, the program can be used, without modification, to achieve efficient nesting patterns. And in the event a tool becomes so worn that work falls outside of specifications, Campunch immediately signals an alert so the tool can be changed, thus conserving maintenance time, as well.

Most experts agree that lean manufacturing begins with product development – that it's important to design parts, not only aesthetically correct, but ones that are also easy to produce in as few operations as possible. Metalstudio is Salvagnini's extraordinarily powerful software platform that exemplifies the concept of lean design through its speed and ease of use.

Flexible & accurate. Using a specially engineered solid modeller and user interface, Metalstudio "sees" 3D drawings as sheet metal, and automatically makes the necessary adjustments to arrive at the precise cut dimensions for the finished part. During the conversion of part drawing to production program, Salvagnini uses a proprietary bend allowance formula to factor in the effects of plastic deformation of metal during bending. It is Metalstudio intelligence combined with the total accuracy of Salvagnini punching, bending and laser cutting machines that customers count on for the assurance that the first part produced is always a good part.

From concept to completion. With confidence. After all design criteria have been satisfied, the finished pattern can be exported to Metalstudio's machine programming software with a single keystroke. Once received into the suite of production software (Cambend, Camformer, Campunch, Camlaser), Metalstudio will automatically program the appropriate machine to form the new part in the most efficient manner possible. Because production has already been simulated and tested in the computer, the first part produced is always a good part.

It's a flexible, easy to use production tool that automatically generates the most efficient nesting patterns for Salvagnini's S4 punching and shearing machines. Metalnest starts by reviewing all current orders in the system – looking at priorities, quantities and material specifications before assembling the most economic nesting pattern for each specified material, sheet size and sheet thickness. For every cutting plan produced, Metalnest automatically generates the fastest, most efficient punching and shearing sequence for the Salvagnini S4 and prioritizes the order and placement of part unloading for the next operation in the fabrication process.

  Productivity tracking. STAT is Salvagnini's reporting software that displays and documents machine and system statistics in real time and saves them in system memory for later analysis. Machine operators or lights-out supervisors can refer to the running account of machine operations during production to check on job status. Managers can follow manufacturing activity from any computer and make productivity assessments on an hourly, shift, daily or weekly basis. Both shop floor and management personnel can recapture any event that occurred during a production run and simulate action on-screen, in either stop motion or continuous mode, to troubleshoot an unsatisfactory result. STAT is an excellent and powerful tool for evaluation and planning.

  Lean maintenance. The focus of lean theory is to create additional value for the ultimate customer by finding and eliminating any waste and inefficiency that might exist in a manufacturing process. And it is precisely that concept that shaped Salvagnini's mission over 40 years ago, and one that continues to dominate its product development efforts to this very day. Controlling downtime is one way to increase and stabilize productivity, and Salvagnini does that in many ways. One important tool, developed by Salvagnini to make sure that most downtime is scheduled downtime, is Salvagnini's Maintenancemanager software.

Planning ahead. MaintenanceManager software improves the efficiency and predictability of Salvagnini systems by scheduling maintenance of machines or components during off-hours, according to predetermined parameters. The signal to perform maintenance procedures is triggered by a set of user-customized criteria: real-time intervals, elapsed production hours, volume of material processed, number of times a tool is deployed and critical reports from system sensors, to mention a few. When one of the maintenance thresholds is reached, a message automatically appears on the machine controller, with instructions to guide the operator through the required procedures. Results are recorded and stored in MaintenanceManager memory for long-term tracking.

Maintaining value. Regularly scheduled preventative maintenance measures are an owners best insurance against unplanned downtime due to machine or component malfunction. And with Salvagnini's MaintenanceManager software, scheduling and performing maintenance is predictable, accurate, easy – and best of all – automatic.

 
 
  Thinking ahead. While some companies focus on trying to create better machines, Salvagnini has always concentrated on improving the entire process of sheet metal fabrication. Technologically advanced, stand-alone machines must be able to be integrated into self-contained production cells and lights-out manufacturing systems when a customer decides the time is right. Storage and material handling systems must seamlessly link systems together for smooth, automated productivity. Computers and software must coordinate all systems into a unified whole with plug and play ease. Every detail must be considered in the quest for maximum efficiency – from how raw materials are inventoried, to how finished parts are stacked when an operation is complete.

Visualstacker is Salvagnini's suite of software applications used to manage the unloading and stacking of parts processed on Salvagnini punching, robotized laser cutting or robotized bending machines. Visualstacker has the built-in intelligence to synchronize the operation of all common unloading systems – Cartesian movement, robotic and fall system (boxes) – with the added benefit that teaching-in of robotic unloaders is never required. All movements performed by the unloader are defined according to the geometric characteristics of the finished product.

Maximum space utilization. Visualstacker's sophisticated algorithms optimize the space available for part stacking, automatically taking into consideration the size and shape of the parts being produced, and existing stacks in the area.
